The Sea Turtle Hatchery is situated in Kosgoda (southern part of Sri Lanka - Galle District) near to the beautiful beach.It rescue turtles who are in danger of loosing their lives to the fishing industry whether they are caught in nets or hunted for meat. The center was started in 1981 and up to now They have released more than 1,000,000 Sea Turtles to the ocean.
Madu River is located in Balapitiya.It is very rich in biodivesity. The River area surrounding the river are all swampy marshlands covered in mangrove forests.The forest covers over 61 hectares, that is over 150 acres. 14 of the 24 species of mangroves are found in this area. The swampy marshlands that surround the Madu River are under protection of the government of Sri Lanka as it is a fragile ecosystem that is home to many rare animal species. There are around 300 animal species in Madu River, 19 of which are endemic. The soil there is also really fertile - it’s a real treasure trove for ecologists and biologists.
Lama Hewage Don Martin Wickramasingha commonly Martin Wickramasingha, MBE (29 May 1890 – 23 July 1976) was a Sri Lankan novelist. His books have been translated into several languages.This interesting museum includes the house where Sinhalese author Martin Wickramasinghe was born (the traditional southern structure dates back 200 years and has some Dutch architectural influences). Exhibits are well displayed, with information in English, with a good section on dance (including costumes and instruments), puppets, kolam (masked dance-drama) masks (including one of a very sunburnt British officer), carriages and Buddhist artefacts. Look for the turn near the 131km post, across from the Fortress Hotel.
Evening drive to Galle and Visit the Galle Dutch Fort
Galle Dutch Fort is an ancient Dutch fort next to the Indian ocean. It was built on the 16th century by Portuguese, renovated by Dutch a few years later. It has some interesting places to visit and also it is a UNESCO world heritage. From the beginning, Galle Dutch fort was a multicultural area. So now also you will see it has Churches, Mosques and Buddhist temples well.
